Eagle Pass Snow Conditions

LOST: I was riding on Sat. Mar. 6, and lost my camera. The last time I used it was at Mara Lookout, so I beleive it is near there. It is a Canon Powershot A560, in a black case. Unfortunately there wasn't any contact info on it. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

What a day up at Eagles today, not enough snow for most of us but with the beautiful weather and what snow we did find, it was great!  We had a big crew, Rob, Gary, Duane, Grant, Gerald, Dan, Bruce and myself!  Rob, Gary and Gerald hadn't been up here before so we took them for the grand tour and they had a great time.  Starting out from the gas drop and a right turn, we tore up every hill that didn't have a mark on it, working our way to Piper, up and over, down Zig Zag and made our way to Monster Bowl.  Quite a few sleds using the main trail to Monster but if you got off the beaten track a bit you could always find some hill that had no or minimal tracks on it.  Anyways, Rob and Gary will be spreading the word about our area and will no doubt be back here themselves!  Thanks to all the guys for coming out, had a blast!   Oh, and a huge thanks to Dan from Rob and Gary.  How many times did Rob get stuck at Zig Zag?  5? 6?  Dan was "the man" and helped them out each time while the rest of us basked in the sun at the top!  Dan also helped a sledder out from a different group, who got stuck twice, and Dan was there for him also, what a guy!           Sherm

This is the earliest we have sledded Eagles, its usually not until January that we go in to rip up the snow.  With a freshly groomed trail and tons of sledders on their way up, Charlie, Eric, Dan, Derek and myself got geared up and headed up.  We did the grand tour, from the gas drop made a right turn and carried on from there.  We made our way over to Piper Lk and then down to Twin Lakes and every hill in-between, we had a great day!  Sure, there could have been more snow but, with a little searching we were able to find hills that had very few tracks on it and some that had none, and managed to mess them up pretty good.  Sunshine and  warm temps added to our outing and by the end of the day we were all beat to snot!  Apparently 120 sledders hit this hill today, not bad at all, considering we only ran into maybe 20-30 the entire time.  Big area, lots of places to play!

On another note, there was a major injury up the hill today.  Apparently a sledder was doing a little jumping and wound up in the wrong spot and may have suffered a severe back injury!  A group of 10 or so buddies headed up to build a shelter and keep him warm through the night, they were unable to fly him out before dark.

This is more of a grooming report but, should be noted.  We did start to groom from the bottom but minimal snow on road to continue this far down at this time.  Once you get to 9km the snow starts to get a little heavier and past 15km then its good grooming.  Some trucks were making their way all the way to 9km to unload but I don't know if that's wise, especially with more snow in the forecast.  I would say 4km might be the furthest to unload trucks.  Truck/trailers with chains may be able to make it to the 1 km parking lot, do so at your own risk.  We spoke to a bunch of the BRP boys after a day on the hill, they said they had a good ride but do need more snow back there.  Also, there was a "rain mist" in progress when we were at the top of the trail and it was forming a ice crust on the existing snow, that's a sure fire setup for avalanche material later on in the year!    Sherm
